The new metro line project in Gurgaon entered its on-ground construction stage on Thursday (27 November) as engineers began laying working piles at Sector 44, reported The Times of India.
With all technical approvals secured, GMRL teams initiated the piling activity that will form the base for the upcoming metro piers.
This marks the first visible progress on the 15.3 km Phase-1 corridor since authorities awarded the project in August.
The first phase, estimated at Rs 1,277 crore, carries a targeted completion year of 2028.
GMRL officials said that the launch of piling work will accelerate broader civil construction.
Managing director Chandra Shekhar Khare noted, "We intend to take up construction in an expedited manner. Once operational, the metro will strengthen public transport in Gurgaon by offering a reliable alternative and improving access between residential sectors and commercial hubs."
Phase-1 will connect Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 and include a branch line to the Dwarka Expressway.
The elevated stretch will feature 14 stations, including Sector 45, Cyber Park, Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Basai and Sector 9.
The spur will diverge from Basai toward Sector 101 on the Dwarka Expressway.
Engineers are drilling shafts up to 1.2 metres wide and nearly 30 metres deep, lowering steel reinforcement cages and filling them with concrete.
GRAP restrictions earlier delayed the 15 November launch by slowing material transport.
Six of ten planned test piles have been completed.
Sector 44 became the first work site due to congestion and utility lines around Millennium City Centre.
Officials have installed barricades, lighting, dust-control systems and deployed marshals to ensure safety.
